《美英報刊文章閱讀（精選本）（第五版）》，與前四版一樣，是供大專院校英語和新聞專業(yè)及其他涉外專業(yè)高年級學(xué)生使用的教材，也可供具有相應(yīng)程度的從事新聞、外事等工作者及英語愛好者自修之用。讀者在學(xué)習(xí)了這套報刊文選后，借助《美英報刊導(dǎo)讀》和《當(dāng)代英漢美英報刊詞典》，可以先看美英報紙上文字較淺顯易懂的報道性文章和《美國新聞與世界報道》雜志，然后再看其他新聞刊物和評論性文章。這樣就能獨自走上一條讀懂報刊之路，這也是我們編寫此書的最終目的。
第五版對第四版的課文更新了70%，更換的課文均選自2010年至2013年美英大報和知名新聞期刊，如《紐約時報》、《洛杉磯時報》、《今日美國報》、《泰晤士報》、《星期日泰晤士報》、《金融時報》、《時代》周刊、《新聞周刊》、《美國新聞與世界報道》、《商業(yè)周刊》、《幸�！�(Fortune)雜志、《經(jīng)濟學(xué)家》等。內(nèi)容既有社會、文化、政治等方面的新聞，也有世界大事的報道和評論。
1963年畢業(yè)于北京大學(xué)西方語言文學(xué)系，曾任北京大學(xué)英語系副教授、講授美英報刊文章選讀等課程。英語報刊教學(xué)研究會前任會長。所編《美英報刊文章閱讀》多次印刷，深受師生的歡迎。
