the Global Energy Review & Outlook (GERO),one of annual publications by SGERI,was first published in both Chinese and English.GERO is published at the end of every year to provide updated economic, population, energy, electricity and environmental data for the world, continents and major countries;to track the changes in social and economic aspects, technological efficiency, energy policies, energy prices, and roll out the medium and long-term global energy outlook (by fuel,by sector and by region);and to focus on important areas, key technologies and major issues and carry out relevant special studies. The G/oba/ Energy Review & Outlook 2018,provided a quantitative analysis of the impact of the development of new energy and electrification on future energy transition, and probed into the prospect of future energy and power demand under three scenarios (NDC Emission Reduction scenario,High Energy Efticiency scenario, and 2oC scenario). It is intended to:firstly, find out the rule of global energy and power development and relevant important turning points, trends and changes;secondly, strengthen the study of energy mix changes and identify peak points by categories and when such peak points can be reached;thirdly, strengthen the study of the changes of various subsectors and find out energy consumption changes in connection with various subsectors and means of transport;fourthly, focus on the study of energy policies, including NDC targets and future policy requirements;fifthly, focus on the development of new energy, identify technology, cost and policy changes and look into the future scale of new energy development;sixthly, focus on the electrification process, compare the electrification level across the world and determine its future potential.
Currently, the global energy development not only has to satisfy the growing needs of economic and social development, but also is expected to deal with increasingly prominent climate change and environmental issues. When the harms associated with climate change are gradually coming into reality, more and more countries and international organizations begin to be aware that international society has to act in concert and immediately to cope with climate change by strengthening policy communication and coordination, technology innovation and exchange,as well as market integration and reshaping. In this regard, the energy sector has an important role to play in carrying out relevant studies.Specifically, the medium and long-term energy outlook is a common concern for international energy organizations, energy companies and research and consulting institutions, and findings may provide an important reference for government decision-making,industry development and business operation. As the largest public utility in the world and dedicated to becoming a world-class energy internet company,State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) assumes an important responsibility in promoting global energy transition.State Grid Energy Research Institute (SGERI),based on years of experience and special advantages in the energy and power sector, has consistently carried out the research on global energy review and outlook to summarize the status and identify the trends of global energy development,to probe into possible paths for global energy transition and to propose energy solutions for global climate governance. In 2017,the Global Energy Review & Outlook (GERO),one of annual publications by SGERI,was first published in both Chinese and English.GERO is published at the end of every year to provide updated economic, population, energy, electricity and environmental data for the world, continents and major countries;to track the changes in social and economic aspects, technological efficiency, energy policies, energy prices, and roll out the medium and long-term global energy outlook (by fuel,by sector and by region);and to focus on important areas, key technologies and major issues and carry out relevant special studies. This publication comprises Abstract,Global Energy Review,Global Energy Outlook and Special Focus.Abstract is written by Baoguo Shan and Jiangtao Li,the Global Energy Review by Xiaocong Liu,Jiangtao Li,Xiaolu Wang and Baoguo Shan, the Global Energy Outlook by Jiangtao Li,Chuncheng Zhang,Yuyan Weng and Baoguo Shan;and there are two special focus, one on new energy development, written by Ziqian Li,Caixia Wang and Qionghui Li,and one on electrification process, written by Chuncheng Zhang and Jiangtao Li.The publication,as a whole,is edited by Jiangtao Li and proofread by Chenglong Zhang and Xiandong Tan.We are grateful tor kind support and assistance from SGCC Research Oftice in the course of preparing this publication !It should be noted that, energy and power statistics may be confined by data sources and statistic specifications, and the outlook may differ greatly from actual circumstances as a result of factors such as uncertainty of technological advancement, political and military conflicts.Limited by ability and time, this publication may have some omissions and deficiencies.Your comments are all welcome.
